The Jenkins County Sheriff’s Department has arrested eight individuals in connection with an April 6 report of a dogfight in progress at a residence on BB Lane in Jenkins County.

Jenkins County residents charged with dog fighting were Tyrone Jeff, 22, of First Avenue; Justin Jeff, 21, of First Avenue; Charles Young Jr., 31, of Toole Court; Cody Morris, 18, of Highway 23 North; and Larry Kelly, 20, of Parrish Burke Road. Khambrell Gross, 22, of Utley Road, Waynesboro, was charged with dog fighting and obstruction by fleeing. Kristi Lane, 25, of Kayley Drive, Millen, was charged with obstruction of an investigation.

A 14-year old Jenkins County juvenile was also charged with dog fighting, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a pistol by a person under the age of 21 and carrying a weapon without a license.

Jenkins County Sheriff Robert Oglesby and deputies responded to the dog fighting report, stopping one vehicle as it attempted to leave the residence. Two persons in the vehicle were arrested. A passenger who jumped from the vehicle and ran into a wooded area behind the residence was later identified and arrested when Millen Police Department Corporal Brad Adams executed a traffic stop and found the suspect lying in the back seat of a vehicle.

Four additional suspects were arrested when another vehicle reported to have been involved in the incident was stopped at the intersection of BB Lane and Dickey Road. A handgun located in the vehicle was also seized.

Deputies discovered two dogs on chains at the residence, and six more were found chained in a wooded area behind the residence. All of the animals were seized and turned over to the proper authorities.

All suspects were held in the Jenkins County Jail pending the posting of bond.
