Beating and kicking puppy to death using shovel
Richland, MS (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Dec 31, 2002
County: Rankin

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Glen Pryor

The Richland man accused of beating a young boy's 8 month old puppy to death right in front of him was in court Wednesday. Police claim it was one of the worst cases of animal abuse in central Mississippi. But the man claims he wasn't himself when he acted.

Following his father into court, Glen Pryor had little to say. When asked about the situation he quickly responded, "He was killing my chicken and trying to bite me. It's upsetting."

Police say Pryor beat a Boston terrier/schnauzer mix puppy to death in January. Chris Price, 12, owned the dog. Three weeks ago he told to us what he says Pryor did.

"He slammed it to the ground, then again -- then football-kicked it."

Chris says Pryor then used a shovel, beating the final breaths from the puppy.

Wednesday, Pryor plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

"I was just hoping he would do it the easy way, now we have this long drawn out court date we have to deal with," said Stephanie Williams, Price's mother.

Williams just wanted Pryor to plead guilty for her son's sake.

"I didn't want him to go through it again, but now he has to relive it again," she said.  The trial date for Glen Pryor has been set for March 19.
