Dog-fighting - Many dead and injured dogs found Millen, GA (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Oct 4, 2009 County: Burke
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Sonya Michelle Walker » William Albert Moody, Jr.
After getting a tip from a caller over the weekend, Burke County investigators found a mobile home on Scotts Store Road. What they found when they got there was unbelievable.
Sergeant Matt Raulerson, Burke County Sheriffs Office: “The skulls fit the profile of what looks to be a pitbull, with the blocky head.”
Several dogs were injured, and some were dead.
Sgt. Raulerson: “The ground where the pen was, was actually carpeted. There was both old and new blood stains on the carpet.”
Investigators took photos. One shows a dead dog, another shows where the pen was set up for the dogs to fight, and the other pictures show the bones of dogs. Authorities believe at least eight dogs were involved.
Sgt. Raulerson: “The stages of decomposition on the remains that we found at that location would suggest that they have been throwing dogs out in that area for quite a while.”
Sonya Michelle Walker, 28, was arrested but later released on bond and investigators are now looking 31-year-old William Albert Moody, Jr.
Fraendy Clervaud, reporting: “According to Burke County investigators, folks living along Scotts Store Road were not able to see the dogfighting taking place. That’s because someone put up wooden and tin barriers to block what was happening behind this mobile home."
Authorities say they believe this is not the first time that dogfights were staged at this address. Investigators say, if you have any information leading to a conviction in this case you are eligible to receive a $5,000 reward.
