Charges: Felony CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Myron R. Sloan
A West Side Lawndale man previously convicted of animal cruelty is charged again after police found fighting dogs in his home on Thursday.
Myron R. Sloan, 39, of the 1300 block of South Keeler Avenue, is charged with five counts of felony cruel treatment to animals, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office. He is also charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and a misdemeanor charge for not having a firearm owner's identification card.
Police were tipped off to Sloan's home two weeks ago and searched a search warrant on Thursday, where they found an 8-month old pit bull that could not walk because it was emaciated, a pit bull with fighting scars, two other pit bulls in poor condition, a three-foot iguana in a two-foot cage, a bolt action rifle and ammunition, the release said.
The animals were malnourished and kept in makeshift cages with wire floors that tore their feet, the release said. All are in the care of the Chicago Animal Care and Control center.
Sloan was convicted in 2003 for misdemeanor cruel treatment to animals, the release said. His long criminal history also includes a 2009 conviction for possession of a controlled substance for which he is currently on probation and four previous firearm arrests.
He is expected to appear for a bond hearing Friday. References |
