Dog and puppies abandoned in woods
Midland City, AL (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jun 17, 2010
County: Dale

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Clayton Conrad Creel

A Midland City man faces eight counts of animal cruelty after authorities said he abandoned a pit bull mother and her puppies in a wooded area, according to authorities.

Dale County Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Harvey Mathis said Clayton Conrad Creel, 28, of Private Road 1539 in Midland City was charged after a resident saw Creel’s male and female pit bull and six pit bull puppies tied in a wooded area with no food or water nearby.

A bench trial for the charges is set for July 7, according to court records. Creel faces up to six months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine for each of the class B misdemeanors.

Mathis said residents walking in the woods came across the dogs.

“The puppies were wrapped around trees with no food or water. People need to understand that abandoning a pet is serious,” he said.

Mathis said the sheriff’s department has saw an increase in abandoned animals in the area in the warmer months.

While the pit bulls are expected to live, Mathis said a German shepherd found abandoned earlier this week could die.
