Pit bull locked in trunk Chicago, IL (US)Incident Date: Monday, May 24, 2010 County: Cook
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Anthony Woods
Parolee Anthony Woods was arrested by Chicago police for the 38th time on Tuesday night -- this time for locking a pit bull in his trunk and possession of a dangerous dog by a felon.
Anthony Woods, 39, of 4846 W. Race Ave., was charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals, possession of certain dogs by a felon and failure of animal owner’s duties -- all misdemeanors. Woods was also cited with two counts of child restraint violations, driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance, according to police.
He was arrested at 7:05 p.m. at 3200 W. Roosevelt Rd. after officers responded to a 911 call of animal abuse and saw Woods in the driver’s seat of a 1988 Chevrolet Caprice and heard a scratching noise coming from the trunk, according to a police report.
Officers also saw two unrestrained children under the age of 6 in the back seat of the Caprice and Woods told officers his license had been suspended and didn’t have proof of insurance, the report said.
When an officer asked what the scratching noise was, Woods allegedly said, “That’s my pitbull in the trunk,’’ and officers found the brown and white pitbull panting and sweating in the trunk and officers noticed it was 88 degrees outside, according to the report.
The officers were not able to get the dog out because it also appeared vicious and was growling, showing its teeth and tried to bite the officers, the report said.
Police said Tuesday’s arrest was Woods’ 38th and he was a convicted felon who was on parole at the time. References « More cases in Cook County, IL
