Two dogs badly injured, one more found dead
Nicholls, ACT (AU)

Incident Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: 25 year old male

A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after police seized three abused dogs from his Nicholls home this morning.

Police say one female rottweiler was dead and two other dogs badly injured.

They say the animals appear to have been subjected to serious cruelty.

The man fled the scene when police arrived around 2:00am (AEST) this morning, but returned home an hour later and was arrested.

The surviving dogs have been transferred to the RSPCA for veterinary care.

RSPCA CEO Michael Linke says animal cruelty of this kind is rarely seen in the ACT.

"We've seen acts of this type in the past in Canberra, luckily it's very rare that we see deliberate acts of cruelty," he said.

"So we're just going to assist the police as best we can, and do our evidence gathering, and pass that information to the police."
