Dog severely beaten, teeth and jaw broken
Santa Rosa, CA (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Mar 6, 2010
County: Sonoma

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Todd Lee Naus

A Petaluma man has been charged with felony animal abuse in connection with the alleged beating of a dog in Santa Rosa.

Sonoma County District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua said Tuesday the charge was filed against 26-year-old Todd Lee Naus who was arrested Saturday.

Naus is scheduled for a bail hearing Wednesday afternoon [March 10, 2010] in Sonoma County Superior Court. He is being held under $11,000 bail.

Witnesses said Naus had chained the small brindle-colored dog to a fence and beat it with a large club or wooden log in the 700 block of Wilson Street in Santa Rosa around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The dog was bleeding from the head, mouth and nose when police officers arrived, Passalacqua said.

Sonoma County Animal Control officers took the dog for emergency treatment of head trauma, bruising, broken teeth and a broken jaw, Passalacqua said.
