Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A cat has suffered "appalling" injuries after being shot by an air rifle at close range in north Cornwall.

Eleven-month-old Marmie had two limbs shattered in the attack when the pellet hit one of his legs, passed through his stomach and exited through another leg.

His injuries were so severe that it was initially thought he had been hit by a car when he was found by the side of West Down Road, Delabole, last week.

It is hoped Marmie, who had emergency medical treatment, will fully recover.

The feline, who had been missing from home for a week prior to the attack, has now been returned to his family.

'Horrific incident'

An investigation is under way to try to trace who shot him.

Felicity Cross, animal welfare officer for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), said: "This is a horrific incident where a cat has suffered appalling injuries.

"At first it was thought he had been hit by a car, but when he was examined by a vet it was found that he had been shot - probably at very close range - by an air rifle

"He is a lovely animal and although he isn't out of the woods yet, we are all hopeful he will make a full recovery.

"We are liaising with local police. I would appeal to anyone with information to please contact me, or the police, if they have heard or witnessed anything."
