When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Defendant/Suspect: Darryl Lawson
Case Updates: 2 update(s) available
A man who dumped a pregnant beagle during last week's snowstorm has turned himself in to authorities. David Lawson, of Hamilton, was accused of abandoning the dog near Benzing Farms in Butler County because he didn't want to care for her or her puppies.
Lawson was charged with abandonment, animal cruelty, failure to have a license and running at large, authorities said.
A March 3 court date was scheduled for Lawson, authorities said.
The beagle gave birth to seven pups, which were found by farm owner Chris Demoret in a nest made from straw and buried in the snow. Demoret called the dog warden, who brought the dogs to Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton for care, and they were placed in a foster home until the puppies are old enough to be spayed or neutered and then adopted.
The dog warden said the beagle had likely been dumped shortly before giving birth, because the farm has no neighbors near enough for her to have wandered there.
Case UpdatesIn a case that outraged animal lovers, a 45-year-old man will serve five days in jail for abandoning a pregnant beagle named Valentine in a February snowstorm.
Darryl Lawson, who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and abandonment Wednesday in Hamilton Municipal Court, also faces 175 more days if he breaks conditions of his two-year probation, officials said.
Judge Danile Gattermeyer also fined Lawson $500 and ordered him to perform 40 hours of community service at the Animal Friends Humane Society in Trenton, where the county dog warden brought Valentine and her newborn puppies after they were discovered in a field. The order also bans Lawson from living at a home with animals for two years.
Meg Stephenson, executive director of the Humane Society, said: "Mr. Lawson's actions were deserving of the sentences he received and justice has been served for Valentine and her puppies."
The non-profit shelter, which serves 7,000 animals per year, is reviewing adoption applications for Valentine and her pups, "and will be placing them in their new forever homes in the next few weeks," Stephenson said.

A Hamilton man accused of dumping a pregnant dog in the snow was arraigned Wednesday, March 3, in Hamilton Municipal Court.
Darryl Lawson, 45, of the 6600 block of Woodlawn Ave., told Judge Dan Gattermeyer he could not afford an attorney. He will receive a court-appointed attorney and was told to reappear on Wednesday, March 10.
Lawson was cited on misdemeanor charges of abandonment, abuse to a companion animal and failure to restrain. The beagle mix dog " now named Valentine " whelped seven puppies after being dumped last month. The emaciated dog had snuggled up to a hay roll on a St. Clair Twp. farm, where she delivered her pups when they were discovered Feb. 10 by the property owner following a snowstorm, according to the Butler County dog warden. | Source: OxfordPress.com - Mar 4, 2010 Update posted on Mar 8, 2010 - 3:18PM |
