Dead pit bull dumped, fighting suspected
Waynesboro, GA (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Dec 7, 2009
County: Burke

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Burke County deputies are trying to figure out who dumped a pit bull that appears to have been killed in a dog fight.

Monday morning, a black and white female dog wearing a very wide white Nylon collar was discovered along the side of Cates Mead Road.

According to Investigator Dan Lowe, she suffered numerous injuries including a possible broken neck, broken leg and multiple bites on her neck. He also said one of her nipples appears to have been cut off.

The dogs' top teeth were filed close to the gums, leading investigators believe she was used as a "bait dog" for training fighting dogs.

Evidence suggests the dog was killed someplace else and dumped on Cates Mead Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 706-554-2133. If the case turns out to involve dogfighting, any tip leading to an arrest and conviction could qualify for a reward up to $5,000 offered through the Humane Society.
