Dog beaten to death, another hanged to death
Rockledge, FL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 21, 2010
County: Brevard

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Rusty Lewark

A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday on animal cruelty charges after he killed two dogs he owned, Rockledge police said.

Rusty Lewark, 25, was arrested on two felony counts of animal cruelty charges after investigators determined that he allegedly struck one of his dogs repeatedly on the head until it died and then put a noose around another of his dogs and strangled it Sunday.

Brevard County Animal Services and Enforcement said the two dogs “were medium to large sized,” but did not provide a breed.

The incident happened Sunday in the backyard of Lewark’s house in the 1000 block of Revilla Lane in Rockledge, according to police.

Lt. Donna Seyferth of Rockledge police said Lewark was upset with his dogs because they had attacked another dog. A relative called law enforcement, police said.

Brian Figueroa, spokesman for county animal services, said investigators found the carcasses of the dogs in a dumpster, one still with a noose around its neck.

“There was a some sort of a scuffle where his dogs were involved. That got him upset with his dogs,” Figueroa said.
