CONVICTED: Was justice served?
more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Defendant/Suspect: Araceli Espindola
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
Annette Lagunas, director of operations for Humane Society of Yuma, issued a press release, regarding a case that has resulted in two citations of animal cruelty.
On February 1, 2010, Humane Society of Yuma officers responded to a report of an injured dog in the 200 block of Ramona Street in Somerton, according to the same news release.
At the residence, officers found a matted terrier mix with an untreated, broken front leg.
According to the release, the owner admitted to running over the dog several months ago but had not sought veterinary care. Officers took possession of the dog.
With the assistance of the Somerton Police Department, charges are being pursued, according to the release.
Lagunas said pets depend up people to provide them with veterinary care. "By law, the denial of veterinary care to a sick or injured animal is cruelty."
Case UpdatesA Somerton woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and was ordered to pay just over $300 after running over her dog and not seeking care in February, said a spokeswoman with the Humane Society of Yuma.
Officers with HSOY responded to a call from a neighbor Feb. 1 regarding the dog in the 200 block of Ramona Street in Somerton.
Last month, the Yuma Sun reported officers found the dog with a broken front leg. The owner, Araceli Espindola, admitted to running over the dog several months before and did not seek veterinary care.
HSOY officers took possession of the dog and later had to euthanize it because of its injuries, said Annette Lagunas, director of operations for HSOY.
Lagunas, who attended the court appearance Wednesday, said she believes the woman knows what she did was wrong and feels truly sorry about the situation.
"We feel that there was some amount of justice for the pet," Lagunas said. | Source: yumasun.com - Mar 3, 2010 Update posted on Mar 8, 2010 - 3:08PM |
