A police dog who was shot in the head and survived is being inducted into the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association Hero Animal Hall of Fame, according to a report on KARE-11..
Police say St. Paul Officer Patrick Murphy and a police K-9 named Boomer responded to a call in April 2009, and found an armed person in an alley.
While trying to get to the suspect, Boomer was shot in the head. Officers rushed him to the University of Minnesota where he had surgery and survived.
KARE-TV reported that in September St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington gave Murphy and Boomer the Medal of Valor. Boomer also retired that day because of his injuries.
The ceremony is being held Saturday at the association's convention in Minneapolis. References « More cases in Ramsey County, MN
