Officials with Pinal County Animal Care and Control are looking for the public's help in an investigation of possible animal cruelty.
PCACC workers responded to a stray dog call and found a small female puppy, about three-months-old, with a two-word expletive written on her fur in black permanent marker. The dog also has three tumor-like lumps, which officials say were likely caused by trauma.
The dog was found February 4, 2010 near Skyline and Camino Largo in San Tan Valley.
Officials say officers are hoping someone might know whose dog this is or what might have happened to the puppy that's been named "Nugget" by staff. "She's a very loving dog who appears to have suffered from neglect or abuse," said Ruth Stalter, director of PCACC. "If she is determined to be healthy, she will be put up for public adoption."
Anyone with information about the dog or its owners should call 520-866-7618.
Donations for Nugget or any other animals impounded at Pinal County Animal Care and Control may be made by mailing contributions to Pinal County Animal Care and Control at 764 South Eleven Mile Corner Road, Casa Grande, AZ 85122.
Nugget's x-rays were $200 and her additional medical treatment will include surgery to remove the growths, spay and follow up care. If you have information on this case, please contact: Pinal Animal Cruelty Hotline 520-866-7618
