more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Tying horse to fence, causing it to choke to death
Chesterfield, IL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jul 6, 2003
County: Macoupin

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Kevin McAfee

Kevin McAfee, 42, of Chesterfield, IL was charged last week with one count of criminal damage to property. Authorities say he tied another person's horse to a fence on July 6, causing the animal to choke to death.

Greene County State's Attorney Elliott Turpin petitioned this week to add a count of aggravated cruelty to an animal. Both charges are felonies that carry a penalty of up to three years in prison. Turpin said authorities had not determined why McAfee was tying up the horse. McAfee was being held Friday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
