Charges: Misdemeanor, Felony Non-CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » David Beck » Elizabeth Friedman
A Bluffton couple was arrested late Wednesday night on a felony charge of child neglect after police found their home in "repulsive" living conditions, according to a Bluffton Police Department release Thursday.
David Beck and Elizabeth Friedman, both 23 and married, had been living at the Gardners Lane home with their 3-year-old daughter for more than a year, according to the release and an incident report.
The girl, who had no signs of abuse, was released to other relatives following her parents' arrests.
Beck also faces four counts of ill treatment of animals in connection with a dog and three cats found at the home. The animals apparently had no food or water and had been shut in the home for an extended period of time, the report said.
Beaufort County Animal Control officers seized the animals, the report said.
Police were called to the home just before 9 p.m. Wednesday following a report of a barking dog.
The officer arrived to find an unlocked door and odors of ammonia, feces and urine coming from the home, the report said.
The home was "in disarray," the report said. Animal feces, take-out boxes, spoiled food, soiled diapers, children's toys and alcohol bottles were strewn throughout the home, the report said.
Beck, Friedman and the girl arrived home while officers were there, the report said.
Beck and Friedman were arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the detention center log. Bond had not been set Thursday night, according to the log. References |
