Puppy mill - 85 dogs seized
North Platte, NE (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Dec 28, 2009
County: Lincoln

Disposition: Not Charged

Abuser names unreleased

85 dogs were confiscated from a puppy mill in North Platte. And, 13 were adopted by the Heartland Pet Connection in Hastings. The dogs were being bred by a North Platte couple who had a breeding license.

USDA regulators told them to clean up their operation after neighbor complaints, but they did not.

The dogs were rescued this week by the North Platte sheriff department, USDA and area animal shelters.

They were living in 2 by 3 feet wire cages with only milk for food.

"For 6 years she has been waiting for somebody to drive into that driveway and take her out of that kennel and give her a better life and so not that that has happened we need to make sure that we do a 110% to make sure she has got the life that she deserves," said Lynn Jasnoch, Heartland Pet Connection.

4 animal shelters took in the animals, and are working to get them healthy.

Authorities say no charges will be brought against the owners.

The dogs will be up for adoption in a few weeks.
