A Gulfport man is accused of neglecting his Great Dane to the point that it had to be euthanized because of health problems. Michael Harold Eaton is scheduled to appear July 21st in Harrison County Justice Court on misdemeanor charges of animal neglect and failing to vaccinate his pet against rabies.

Sheriff George H. Payne Junior said animal control officers removed the dog while investigating a complaint that Eaton's dog was malnourished.

Officers say they found the dog inside a broken-down vehicle on Eaton's property.

Eaton's five-year-old female dog allegedly lost all her hair from mange, had open sores all over her body, was anemic and at least 35 pounds underweight.
