more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Pet lizard thrown across street, fatally injured District Of Columbia, DC (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Oct 4, 2009
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Nelson Privado
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
A D.C. man who threw his son's pet lizard across the street and fatally injured it was arrested for animal cruelty this week, police officials reported.
Nelson Privado spent a day in jail Wednesday following the Oct. 9 incident, which was reported by his family. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
"The lizard tried to bite me," Privado said by telephone Friday night. "I was afraid." The pet belonged to his 15-year old son, an "an animal lover" with aspirations to become a veterinarian, he said. It did not have a name, Privado said, but he thought it was a species native to the Morocco.
If convicted, animal cruelty carries a punishment of up to 180 days of jail time or a fine of up to $250 or both, police said.
Case UpdatesNelson Privado, the Northwest D.C resident arrested in December for killing his son's Bearded Dragon lizard, has been convicted of animal cruelty.
Privado was taken into custody on Dec. 30, 2009 after his family reported a domestic disturbance to the police. According to the family, Privado fought with his son on October 9, 2009 after the 15-year old arrived home late from school. Privado then took his son's Bearded Dragon lizard and threw it across a four lane road. The lizard, Beardie, did not survive the argument.
Privado, who has previously been arrested for domestic violence, assault and DUI, refused a plea bargain and decided to try the case. He was sentenced to 40 hours of community service, anger management class and $100 restitution.
Privado also received one year supervised probation, and will be given 90 days in jail if he violates his sentence. | Source: myfoxdc.com - Apr 21, 2010 Update posted on Jan 20, 2011 - 10:25PM |
