A kitten found shot repeatedly with a BB gun Friday has died.
Animal Control Officer Kevin McDonough is offering a $50 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for killing the 4 to 6 week-old animal, police said.
The cat was found alive and wrapped in a white T-shirt in the yard of a Ninth Street home. It had been shot several times, police said.
It was taken to the Troy Veterinary Clinic on Hoosick Road where it later died, clinic workers said this morning.
It was the third case of cat abuse in the city since the summer of 2008. In June of that year, a mutilated and tortured cat was found tossed into the Hudson River at the foot of Madison Street.
A month later a tortured, 6-month-old cat was dumped in the middle of the Congress Street bridge over the Hudson River.
There is a $3,500 reward for information in those cases.

Case UpdatesThe Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting a kitten with a pellet gun and leaving him to die in Troy, N.Y. This marks the third case of cruelty to a cat since last summer in Troy. The reward is in addition to a few large rewards, and a $50 reward offered personally by Troy Animal Control Officer Kevin McDonough, raising the total reward offered to nearly $5,000.
The Case:
News reports give the following account: On Nov. 13, a weeks-old gray tiger kitten was found wrapped in a white T-shirt by construction workers on 9th Street in Troy, N.Y. Shot three times by a pellet BB gun, the kitten was left to die in a garbage can, suffering from gunshot wounds and a broken leg. Despite efforts to save him at a local veterinary clinic, the kitten died.
McDonough said this is the third unsolved case of cruelty to a cat since June 2008, when a mutilated and tortured cat was found tossed into the Hudson River, near Madison Street. Weeks later, a 6-month-old cat was found tortured and dumped in the middle of the Congress Street Bridge. No evidence suggests the three cases are connected.
