Poisoning dogs with antifreeze and rat poison Mechanicsville, VA (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Jul 9, 2003 County: Hanover
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: George Fischer
A Mechanicsville man is charged with five counts of animal cruelty, for allegedly setting out to kill neighborhood dogs. Animal control officers say 65 year old George Fischer intentionally laid out rat poison and antifreeze. He's charged with five counts of animal cruelty. According to the pet owners, the toxic substances were mixed in with food. As a result, one dog died and four others were sickened. When asked about the charges, Fischer denied the poisoning was intentional. "I don't try to hurt those animals. Only thing I tried to get rid of was groundhogs, and possums who come in our yard." One of the five counts of animal cruelty is a felony, since one of the dogs died. That charge alone could land Fischer in jail for up to five years. References |
