A Prattville man and woman face felony animal cruelty charges after allegedly not giving food or water to a dog over a 10-day period.

The "brown pit bull-like dog" was found dead Wednesday in the backyard of 211 Gardenia Court, police reports show. The dog had been chained to a tree, according to court records.

Susan Laverne Williams Kiddy, 29, of 211 Gardenia Court, and Robert Daniel Kiddy, 23, of the same address each face one count of cruelty to a dog, said Police Chief Alfred Wadsworth.

Robert Kiddy told authorities that he and Susan Kiddy are separated and that he had left the dog in Susan Kiddy's care, court records show.

Robert Kiddy gave police a Durden Road address as the place where he had been staying recently, documents show. Susan Kiddy allegedly did not feed or water the dog for 10 days, court records show.

She was arrested Wednesday and remained in the Autauga Metro Jail on Thursday under a bond of $15,000, jail records show.

Robert Kiddy was arrested Thursday morning and was released from the Autauga Metro Jail after posting a $15,000 bond, jail records show.

Wadsworth said Robert Kiddy is charged with animal cruelty because neighbors told police he visited the home on Gardenia Court several times during the time period in question. Neighbors contacted authorities Wednesday about a possible dead dog in the yard, police reports show. The city's code enforcement officer went to the home and found the dog dead, Wadsworth said.

Cruelty to a dog is a Class C felony, with a punishment range of one to 10 years in prison if convicted, according to District Attorney Randall Houston's office.
