Cocoa Police have a arrested a man on charges of animal cruelty. The arrest came after calls were received from neighbors on Fern Avenue advising that they could hear a dog crying and believed that someone was hurting the dog.

Police and animal services arrived, but the owner of the dog had learned that the police were called and quickly removed the dog from the area. Police searched for the dog but could not find her.

On Thursday, police received a call of a dog in the area of Blake Avenue and Thomas Avenue running loose, which was injured and appeared to have been beaten.

Animal Services was called and they were able to catch the female pit bull mix.

Police located the dogs owner who initially denied owning the dog. The suspect, Kenta Trevell Wyns, 31, later admitted that the dog did belong to him and that he had hidden the dog two days prior when police were at this house.

Wyns was arrested and transported to the Cocoa Police Department. He is charged with animal cruelty and has been transported to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on $2,000.00 bond.

The dog was taken to the Animal Emergency & Critical Care Center of Brevard. After she is treated she will be turned over to the Brevard County Animal Services.
