A tip led law officers to about 80 roosters suspected of being part of an illegal cockfighting ring in a rural area of Jefferson County.
Port Arthur police helped locate the operation in a wooded area near Port Acres and seize the animals.
Investigators say trees had been cleared and a road led to the compound where dozens of roosters, some of them dead, were found in crude cages.
Police say the operators of the site are sought.
