Dog-fighting - 3 dogs seized
Sarasota, FL (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Sep 21, 2009
County: Sarasota

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Isack Edwards

A man already convicted of animal cruelty back behind bars for the same offense.

Sarasota County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 29-year-old Isaac Edwards Jr. Monday afternoon at his home on Coconut Avenue in Sarasota. They responded on a search warrant and found evidence of what they say is illegal dogfighting.

A report says three dogs were found at the home -- all with multiple dog bite scars on their body. Deputies say at least two of the dogs were malnourished and one was emaciated. All of the dogs were infested with parasites and fleas or heart worm disease.

Other signs of illegal dog fighting were found, including a table of wound care supplies used on the dogs instead of seeking veterinarian care.

Edwards Jr. is charged with Cruelty to Animals, Abandonment and Animal Fighting.

In 2004, Edwards Jr. was arrested when Sarasota police officers busted a dog fight at a home on Dixie Avenue. At the time officers found about 50 people participating. A total of eight were charged.

Back then, one dog was shot and killed after attempts were made to separate the pit bulls in the middle of a fight. Another dog ran off and eleven were taken by Animal Services.

Court records show Edwards Jr. was found guilty and ordered to pay fines, which have gone deliquent this year.

The three dogs found yesterday were treated by a vet.

Edwards jr. Has bonded out of the sarasota county jail.
