Dogs neglected, flea infestation
Stonington, CT (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Sep 2, 2009
County: New London

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Etta L. Hanos

Charged Wednesday with animal cruelty was Etta L. Hanos, 62, of 779 Stonington Road.

Animal Control Officer Rae Jean Davis said she has been documenting the condition of the two dogs that live at this house for three years. “They have a terrible flea infestation, one of the dogs has chewed its fur off,” she said.

The purebred yellow Lab and Keeshond also have not had their nails trimmed, and the nails have grown to the point where the dogs have difficulty walking.

The dogs remain with the owner while the case is being adjudicated. Davis said she is hopeful a judge will order the owner to take care of the flea situation.

“She is treating the problems the dogs have done to themselves but she is not treating the fleas,” Davis said. “I've never seen nails this long on any dog.”
