more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

7-week-old kittens neglected Keansburg, NJ (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Jul 9, 2009 County: Monmouth
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Brooke D. Torres
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
A Keansburg resident was charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty to four young kittens Thurday evening, according to Victor Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for thr Prevention of Animal Cruelty.
Brooke D. Torres, 28, threw four kittens, all around 7 weeks old, outside the previous night because they were infested with fleas, Amato said. The kittens' cries alerted the neighbors, who notified Chief Amato.
Amato found the kittens dehydrated, starved and all suffering from upper respiratory infections. Amato briefly took the kittens to his home to provide basic care, food and water, and cleaning of the eyes, which were filled with discharge from the infections, Amato said. The kittens were then transported by Associated Humane ambulance for further veteranary care.
Amato said Torres was charged with four counts each of abandonment, failure to provide food, water and shelter, and failure to provide veterinary care/sustenance. Her court date is July 16 at Keansburg Municipal Court in front of Judge Michael Puglesi.
Case UpdatesA woman accused earlier this summer of leaving four young kittens outside her home because they were infested with fleas has been fined $500 by a municipal court judge.
Brooke D. Torres, 28, pleaded guilty to five counts of animal cruelty related to her treatment of the 7-week-old kittens in July, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
In addition to the fine, Torres was barred from owning any pets for five years, a provision that will be enforced by random SPCA inspections, Amato said. | Source: Asbury Park Press - Aug 27, 2009 Update posted on Aug 30, 2009 - 9:23PM |
