Two brothers are facing animal cruelty charges after Fort Pierce Police detectives on Friday discovered several extremely malnourished dogs during a search of their home, according to a press release.

Ezekiel Daughtry, 31, and Jerzell Daughtry, 22, both of 300 block of North 31st Street, are each charged with felony animal cruelty, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, the release states.

The Animal Control Unit took eight dogs from the home for treatment at the Treasure Coast Animal Hospital, the release states.

As of Saturday morning, the younger brother was in St. Lucie County Jail in lieu of $1,500 bail. Information about Ezekiel Daughtry was not available.
