Saint Paul, MN (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Aug 25, 2009
County: Dakota

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Steven David Strachota

A homeless man was charged after he threw his puppy a St. Paul intersection, resulting in the puppy being euthanized.

Steven David Strachota, 27, was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

According to the criminal complaint, Strachota threw his pit-bull puppy about eight feet into the air near the intersection of Ricer and Nebraska in St. Paul.

A witness said the puppy hit the ground hard.

Strachota allegedly then wanted to tie the puppy to a tree and leave him to die. A witness took the puppy home, but did not have the funds to help it.

Police transported the puppy to the animal emergency clinic located at 310 West University, where the dog was euthanized due to the severity of the injuries it sustained.

Strachota said his thoughts were to kill the dog. Strachota said he was angry and felt like choking the dog.
