Aneighbor of Norman Otis Douglas of the McRae area, reported that Douglas was depressed. The neighbor worried that he was going to shoot all of his dogs.
Several neighbors later heard gunshots coming from the man's residence and heard dogs yelping.
Patrol and traffic units responded, established a perimeter and the suspect was confronted walking through his yard armed with a rifle. Douglas had killed five of his dogs and another was badly wounded. Four additional dogs were unharmed in their pens.
He was taken into custody and charged with cruelty to animals. Animal control officers seized the remaining dogs.
