County: Daviess

The Owensboro Humane Society said a local dog, Boss, was chased by several teens and shot with a shotgun.

More than 20 pieces of shrapnel were removed from Boss.

The boys apparently told someone the dog killed a chicken last week.

"To me that's not a way to solve a problem," Owensboro Humane Society employee Wendy Sutrick said. "I understand, I'd be upset if one of my chickens got killed too. I'd be very upset as well. But going after and shooting a dog. If he had killed a chicken it's not like the dog knew."

The humane society said animal abuse is on the rise.
