A man who left his pet dog behind in an abandoned apartment has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty, according to Hillsborough Animal Services.
32-year-old Jorin Stewart was arrested today [Aug 7, 2009] at the Chase Bank on Independence Parkway in Tampa, where he works as a manager, according to jail records
A female boxer was found dead in the apartment Stewart and his wife were renting in Westchase.
Spokeswoman Marti Ryan said the boxer had likely been dead a few weeks, although tests are being performed to determine exactly when the animal died.
The dog had drank from 3 toilets in the apartment but had no other food or water, Ryan said.
The toilets were found completely dry, she added.
Officers are still trying to locate Stewart's wife Amber and determine if she was complaisant in the abuse.
