11 Horses die from dehydration
Weatherford, TX (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jul 15, 2009
County: Parker

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Parker County authorities say 11 horses died of dehydration at a ranch near Weatherford.

Sheriff Larry Fowler says it appears a well had quit and an employee did not notice it.

Fowler told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that a ranch hand apparently failed to check a water well on the opposite side of the property from where the horses were being fed.

Fowler says the ranch hand is being prosecuted on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.

Ten horses were discovered dead earlier this month. Another had to be euthanized. More than two dozen others were removed and treated for dehydration.
