County: Vanderburgh

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Authorities are trying to identify the owner of two dogs found neglected outside a home in the 1500 block of Judson Street.

According to an Evansville Police Department incident report, the pit-bull-terrier mixed-breed dogs were found June 25 in the backyard of a home with no food or shelter available to them. One dog was tethered to a tree and appeared to be severely emaciated with sores on open wounds on various parts of his body. The other was tethered to a car and was moderately emaciated, officials said.

A police report was filed Tuesday in the case after several days of unsuccessful efforts to find the owners. If identified, they may face a charge of animal cruelty, abandonment or neglect, a class B misdemeanor.

An animal control officer took custody of the dogs and brought them to East Side Animal Hospital for treatment.
