This week Benson Police responded to a call about animal neglect. Officer Shannon Hodges found a mixed-breed, medium-sized dog malnourished and six small puppies inside of a pen at a residence on East Parrish Drive in Benson.
Officer Hodges reported the larger dog appeared malnourished and in need of immediate attention.
According to the police report, the pen was approximately 5 feet by 5 feet in size and the inside was covered with feces. No water or food was inside the pen and were covered with feces as well, according to the report.
The owner of the residence was unable to be located at the time, and according to the report, the officer seized the animals due to their health condition and their living environment.
According to the police report, the animals were taken to the Johnston County Animal Shelter for evaluation and warrants are pending.
