Kittens poisoned
Woburn, MA (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Jul 31, 1998
County: Middlesex

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: Patricia Capello Marquardo

Formerly of 715 Arboretum Way, Woburn MA now living in Gardner MA

Patricia and her two daughters (ages 3 and 11) allegedly have a known history of abusing cats/kittens that they get from "free to a good home" ads. This single mother has had several other cats, allegedly either removed from the home or died a horrible death. When she gets tired of them she allegedly simply poisons them.

Sharmy was an 8-day-old kitten who was found by a 15-year-old girl just after the kittens leg had been pulled off. The injury appeared to the Woburn Animal Hospital to have been several hours old, which meant the kitten had been in pain for a long time. The kitten, a fluffy little grey and white male was named after the veterinarian who cared for him. The hospital felt the kitten would do best if kept with its mother so the mother cat was taken into custody, as were the three other kittens. They have all since been adopted.

No charges were ever filed against this family because no one in the apartment complex or the veterinarian wanted to be involved in a long drawn out trial. The family who reported the injured kitten has been mysteriously harassed and their car and other property vandalized over the past year. The police cannot do anything until the offending party is caught in the act
