Three family pet dogs, suspected of being poisoned, died within hours of each other last week in a New Ross housing estate.
The much-loved dogs died on Friday after they were believed to be poisoned in the Woodbine Close Housing Estate. A five-year-old Labrador 'Reggie', an eleven-month-old miniature Jack Russell 'Jazz' and a terrier cross 'Lily', who is a rescue dog from the New Ross SPCA, all died within hours of each other.
The devastated owners called a local vet on Thursday night after the Labrador started to convulse and the miniature Jack Russell started to shake and stagger.
When the vet arrived, the third dog, the terrier cross, started to show the same symptoms. 'The signs were consistent with Strychnine poisoning and that poison hasn't been available on the market for many years,' said the vet.
Gardai are investigating. References
