Dog shot, cat drowned during burglary
Saint Louis, MO (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Apr 26, 2009
County: Saint Louis City

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Police are investigating a gruesome crime in south St. Louis. They believe someone burglarized a home in the 3500-block of Pennsylvania and killed the family pets on the way out.

The Scheller family is still reeling.

Laura Scheller found them. She says, "I saw that the dog and the cat were both laying next to each other and that they were both dead. I was in such shock that I didn't know what to do."

The family called police. They say Petey, a Chihuahua, had been shot twice. Isabella, the cat, had apparently been drowned. Both were left by the door for their owners to find.

Marti Scheller who also lives at the home says, "They took a 6-pound dog and probably a 3 or 4-pound cat and killed them and laid them out. Why? Why? It's horrible."

The motive may have been burglary. The people responsible took a Playstation 2 and a couple of watches and took off.

Marti Scheller says, "We're talking about $200-dollars. Nobody cares here about that are you kidding me? Nobody cares about anything like that. We're talking about our babies."

Laura Scheller adds, "It just seems so random and so senseless that it's hard to even make sense out of it for anybody."

Police don't have any suspects so far, but think neighborhood teens may be involved. The family says that scares them even more.

Laura Scheller says, "When you think about children doing this, what kind of adults are they going to grow up to be?"

While authorities investigate, the Schellers are trying to console eachother. And say they're hugging their surviving pets a little tighter.

Marti Scheller says, "I think there's some evil people in the world and they have to be stopped."
