Dog fatally shot during home invasion

A pitbull dog was shot, and later died, during a home invasion at an Allentown apartment Sunday morning, city police said.

The crime happened at 10:30 a.m. at 946 W. Maple Street. A man entered the unlocked door and pointed a gun at an Allentown man who had been house-sitting the residence.

The man demanded money and the pitbull lunged at the intruder. The intruder shot the pitbull. The pitbull was later put to sleep, police said.

Police provided the following description of the suspect: a black man standing about 5-foot-5 and wearing a green t-shirt and jeans. He used a black handgun.
