Dog shot with compound bow
Baker, FL (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 31, 2009
County: Okaloosa

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Joseph Daniel Barber

A man told an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy that he shot a neighbor's dog with an arrow to "run it" off of his property. The dog had been a nuisance for a month and its owner had done nothing after he complained, the man said.

Joseph Daniel Barber, who is 34, was charged with felony animal cruelty after the dog was found with an arrow protruding from its right side, according to Barber's arrest report.

The dog was in a significant amount of pain, had lost a lot of blood and was shaking, the deputy noted.

The man told the deputy that the dog had not been acting aggressively, but that he was tired of dealing with the problem of the dog being in his yard. He said he intentionally shot at the dog with his compound bow.
