A Kendall County woman who had been raising and selling great Danes was charged Friday with cruel treatment of animals after three dead dogs and 14 others in poor health were discovered on her property.

Joanne Whitfield, of the 10100 block of Fox River Drive in rural Newark, was charged with violation of the Humane Care for Animals Act, failure to dispose of a dead animal, and cruel treatment of an animal, Kendall County State's Atty. Eric Weis said.
