Puppy thrown into tables during domestic dispute
Muncie, IN (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 5, 2009
County: Delaware

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Alissa Amber Riddle

A Dunkirk woman has been accused of taking out her unhappiness with a former boyfriend on the rural Muncie man's puppy.

Alissa Amber Riddle, 20, 8608 W. Jay County Road 300-S, was charged this week with cruelty to an animal, A Class A misdemeanor carrying a maximum one-year jail term.

Authorities allege Riddle forced her way into the man's home, in the 6000 block of North Delaware County Road 500-E, after kicking a rear door in about noon March 5.

Delaware County sheriff's deputies were en route to a report of a domestic problem at that address when they were advised Riddle "had just killed (the man's) puppy."

The ex-boyfriend told police Riddle "picked up the puppy and threw the puppy onto a hard-wood table," according to court documents.

Deputies said the injured dog " described as a very small, apparently recently born lab " was alive when they arrived. The owner told police he intended to take the dog to a veterinarian's office.

Riddle was arrested and taken to the Delaware County jail, where she was released later that day after posting a $16,000 bond.

She is also charged with residential entry and possession of a controlled substance, both Class D felonies carrying maximum three-year sentences. The drug charge stems from the alleged discovery of Vicodin tablets in Riddle's purse.
