Dog shot in the chest Joshua Tree, CA (US)Incident Date: Friday, Feb 27, 2009 County: San Bernardino
Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
Angel desperately needs an angel or two. The dog was shot in the chest on Feb. 27, and sustained additional serious damage to her front leg, after she was accidentally let out of her yard.
"She's being held together by spit and glue right now," said Kate Porter of Critter Coalition, an animal-care charity that is raising money for Angel's care.
"We committed to the cost of the initial visit and X-rays at the High Desert Animal Hospital in Yucca Valley, but cannot handle the much-needed surgery," Porter said.
Angel's family members "are beside themselves," Porter added, saying their pet is at home and they are doing their best to keep her chest wound packed with antibiotic ointment and hygienically wrapped. But the wound needs to be closed, and until it is, Porter fears Angel is in danger of developing sepsis, a deadly blood infection.
"Until the economic problems, the Critter Coalition had been able to take care of emergencies like this. But now, we are broke," Porter admitted.
Porter called Angel's family responsible pet owners who also were severely affected by the economy. The husband's work hours were cut back and his wife is on disability. His last paycheck had to go to their mortgage to keep them in their home.
Donations are being accepted for the $500 to $700 needed for High Desert Animal Hospital to perform Angel's surgery. Porter gave her assurance that donations will go directly to the veterinarian bill, and any extra dollars will stay at the animal hospital in a fund to help other needy families with vet bills.
Contributions to Angel's cause are being accepted at Critter Coalition and the High Desert Animal Hospital. Write "Angel" on your check and send it to:
