Dog shot Marion, WI (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, Feb 3, 2009 County: Waupaca
Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
Another case of animal cruelty in Waupaca County. A dog is recovering after being shot near Marion on Tuesday. The Sheriff's Department is now looking for anyone who might know who shot Mike and Gidget Blank's dog, Buddy.
The family's vet was able to remove most of the shotgun pellets from Buddy, but three remain. One lodged in his lung, the other two in his stomach.
Back home and bandaged up, Buddy is recovering with his family. Gidget Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "He's our baby, he's just like a member of the family." The family first thought Buddy had wounds from barbed wire. Mike Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "Buddy was all bloody, we didn't know what was wrong." The vet confirmed Buddy was suffering from a gunshot from a shotgun, which left 11 pellets inside him. You can see the marks where the pellets hit. Gidget Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "You can tell he's a little tender in spots, he may not be getting around as good as he was. I'm very angry and very upset something thinks this is okay to do."
The family believes Buddy jumped the fence to play with a neighbor's dog on and left the yard for the first time without his owners. Mike Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "It's possible he was shot right on the road down there." Mike followed Buddy's paw prints and splatters of blood to an abandoned school house, just down the road from where the family lives. This is where they believe he was shot. Mike Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "Believe it or not he came right back up the driveway."
Gidget Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "I think he was probably where he maybe shouldn't of been and somebody decided they were going to do something about it." Gidget just wishes whoever did this would have brought buddy back home instead of try and take his life. Gidget Blank/Buddy's Owner says, "He's very calm and gentle, very timid and shy. Would not hurt anybody." So, the family's left wondering why anyone would hurt Buddy.
Buddy is still not out of the woods, he is on medication in hopes he doesn't develop an infection. The family plans to build a taller fence, so there is no chance of Buddy ever scaling the fence again.
