A Memphis man is under arrest after cops say they found a cockfighting setup at his home. Police say they seized 80 hens and roosters and eight ducks from a home in the 3700 block of Prescott in Southeast Memphis. They say the ducks are used as bait in cockfights. They also found a cockfighting ring, with spectator seating. Police also seized nearly 200 black pills that are given to the birds as a numbing medication.
The investigation started when customs officials found blades used in cockfighting on a person flying from Detroit to Memphis. That person gave police the address on Prescott.
Police say the homeowner, Phaichith Phantavong, admitted the birds were used for cockfighting.
He faces a misdemeanor citation for animal cruelty and cock fighting. References |
