Dog found with chain embedded in neck Schaumburg, IL (US)Incident Date: Friday, Nov 21, 2008 County: Cook
Charges: Felony CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Jenell Land
A Cook County judge set bond at $5,000 earlier this week for Schaumburg resident Jenell Land, charged with animal cruelty in the death of a 2-year-old pit bull.
Schaumburg police arrested the 32-year-old Land, of the 2200 block of Briar Hill, in November, after she brought the dog to the Gold Rose Animal Hospital. Staff members there found a chain wrapped so tightly around the animal's neck it had become embedded, and the dog's flesh had grown around it. The veterinarian advised Land of her options: an expensive operation to repair the damage or euthanasia. Land chose the latter. Suspecting cruelty, the vet notified authorities.
An officer investigating Land found she had not provided her pet adequate protection and shelter.
Initially charged with a misdemeanor, the charge against Land was upgraded to a class 4 felony this week. If convicted, she faces one to three years in prison. References |
