An Angelina County woman was arrested on charges of animal cruelty late Thursday night [Jan 1, 2009].
Alicia Riggins, 25, was charged with abandoning two pit bull mix dogs when she left her residence in the summer of 2007.
On Aug. 7, 2007, an officer and deputy were dispatched to the 400 block of Woodlawn Circle based on a complaint made about the animals' welfare. The officer and deputy found two emaciated dogs on the property, according to a police report. They photographed the animals and gave them food and water before leaving the scene.
A witness stated that the dogs had been left alone without food or water since Riggins moved from the property exactly one month prior. The landlord agreed with the witness's statement.
Riggins does not have a phone listing in Lufkin. She was released less than an hour after being arrested on a $1,500 bond.
