Dogs abandoned in trailer
Panama City, FL (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Dec 4, 2008
County: Bay

Disposition: Not Charged

Abuser names unreleased

Deputies responding to a complaint about barking dogs discovered two emaciated pit bulldogs that had been left in a house trailer by a couple who apparently abandoned the residence.

A resident of a trailer park off Drummond Avenue told Bay County Sheriff's deputies she was awakened Thursday night by the sound of a barking dog. She realized the barking was coming from a nearby trailer, and she went to investigate. She saw a dog trying to get through a hole in the side of the trailer, according to an incident report.

She told deputies that she hadn't seen the residents of that trailer for about a week. Another neighbor told deputies that he saw the residents leaving about midnight on Dec. 1 after loading bags into a yellow cab.

Two deputies entered the trailer and found "clothes and junk all over the residence," as well as two pit bulldogs shut in separate bedrooms.

"It was visible that neither dog had food or water and was surrounded by their own feces," a deputy reported. "Both dogs were very skinny, and you could see their rib cage from not having food."

The dogs were turned over to Bay County Animal Control, which will follow up for possible animal cruelty charges, the report said.
