Dog, woman beaten with shovel during dispute Lake Worth, FL (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Nov 20, 2008 County: Palm Beach
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Richard Vincent Adams
An ongoing spat between suburban Lake Worth neighbors got ugly when a man struck a woman's dog with a shovel, then struck the woman in the arm and face, according to a deputy's report.
This morning, Richard Vincent Adams, 18, was ordered held in lieu of $6,000 bail, charged with aggravated battery and animal cruelty.
Jeannette Jordan told Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies she was walking her cocker spaniel Morgan in the 6200 block of Arbor Glen Circle, near Hypoluxo Road and South Military Trail, about 5:45 p.m. Thursday when he relieved himself on Adams' lawn.
Jordan said Adams stormed out of his home with a shovel and told her to remove the dog or he would strike it.
He then hit Morgan, who weighs 35 to 40 pounds, with a full swing, knocking the dog back, Jordan said.
She told deputies she tried to get between Adams and the dog and Adams swung again; the shovel struck the woman's forearm and then her head.
Jordan said today by phone that neither she nor the dog suffered broken bones or required hospitalization.
After Jordan showed a deputy surveillance video of the confrontation, Adams admitted to the attack and was arrested, a sheriff's report said.
Prosecutors said in court this morning that Adams has no criminal history.
Jordan said today she and Adams' mother have feuded since Adams' family moved in about three years ago.
Records show the neighbors twice took their spat to court; the second time was this morning, when Jordan filed for an injunction against Richard Adams.
The Adams family could not be reached. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Palm Beach County, FL
